TORONTO -- A tow truck driver is in hospital after being shot in North York on Wednesday evening.
Toronto police said the shooting happened in the area of Leslie Street and Highway 401 at around 7:22 p.m.
Insp. Jim Gotell said the victim made his way to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in stable condition.
Gotell said they believe the victim was driving a tow truck when someone in another vehicle fired shots at him.
"We're quite confident that we have a lot of video of what happened here this evening," he said.
Police have not released suspect information at this time.
Gotell said it is too early in the investigation to determine if it is related to an ongoing tow truck turf war that has been occurring in the region for more than a year.
"It's far too early for me to say if there's any link to any other shootings that have occurred. But obviously, this is going to be something that our investigators will be looking at very closely to determine if there is a link," Gotell said.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
Leslie Street between Highway 401 and Esther Shiner Boulevard is closed for a police investigation.
