LINDSAY, Ont. - Conservative MP Barry Devolin says he will not run in the next federal election.

He says he will complete his current term as the member for the Ontario riding of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock.

Devolin made the announcement Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Conservative riding association.

He said he has no plans for the future, and was making the announcement now to give a new candidate time to prepare for the next election, expected in Oct. 2015.

Devolin was first elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2006, 2008 and 2011.

For the past five years, he has served as Assistant Deputy Speaker in the House of Commons
