JUNIUS, N.Y. - State police say a Canadian truck driver has died after his tractor-trailer veered off the Thruway in upstate New York and crashed into a farmer's field.

Troopers say the 49-year-old man from Toronto was travelling east on Interstate 90 Monday night when the truck left the highway, crossed the median and both westbound lanes before coming to a rest in a field in the Seneca County town of Junius, just east of Exit 42 near Geneva.

The county coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene. His body was taken to Geneva General Hospital for an autopsy.

The driver's name hasn't been released.

Troopers say the truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of rolled paper.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
