Two lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard were closed Tuesday night and will remain that way for more than two weeks before Indy cars will race down the street during the annual Honda Indy.
Two lanes of Lake Shore are shut down in both directions between Strachan Avenue and Ontario Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, and will remain closed until Thursday, July 17 as crews prepare for the race.
Following the preparations, all lanes will be closed in both directions from July 18 to 20, when the road is dedicated to its temporary purpose as a race track.
In a statement released earlier this month, Indy officials said they were doing what they could to help alleviate traffic during the two-week run-up to the race.
Organizers noted that track work will only be done at night, when traffic is lighter, and it will not be completely closed until just before the actual event.
In addition to staggered construction, the preparation was put off until July, Honda Indy Toronto said in the statement. The work usually begins in June, but this year the group waited until the summer holiday season.
