Three firefighters were injured battling a blaze at a Mississauga home that destroyed a garage on Thursday afternoon.

The two-alarm fire broke out at about 3:45 p.m. at 5719 River Grove Ave, in the Britannia and Creditview Roads area.

Flames were shooting out of the home's windows when crews arrived. After firefighters entered the house, part of the first floor collapsed, injuring two firefighters. A third suffered smoke inhalation.

The victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents who were inside the home managed to escape the flames, but a father was also taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Crews doused the fire quickly, but the home sustained heavy damage. The garage was completely destroyed.

Platoon Chief Mike Head said the cause of the fire is not yet known.
