MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Ontario's police watchdog has charged a York Region officer in connection with an alleged assault that took place in April.
The Special Investigations Unit says on April 21, officers were called to a Richmond Hill, Ont., home where "an interaction ensued" between police and those living in the home.
During that interaction, the SIU says 63-year-old Zdenek Horsak was allegedly assaulted by an officer.
Const. Ernest Carmichael is facing one charge of assault and is set to appear in court in September.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
