MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Ontario's police watchdog says there are no reasonable grounds to charge a Barrie officer after a man died following his arrest for public intoxication.

The Special Investigations Unit says police believed James Snow, 38, was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested at the Barrie bus station March 19.

Snow was checked a number of times in his cell and was taken to hospital later that night when he went into medical distress.

He suffered a series of seizures, became non-responsive and died on March 22.

An autopsy determined Snow died from the effects of methanol intoxication.

The SIU says there was nothing about Snow's actions or demeanour up to the point where an ambulance was called to suggest he was in imminent medical danger.
