TORONTO - A new movie theatre has opened at The Hospital for Sick Children to provide a much-needed escape for patients and families.
As the lights went down this morning in the 230-seat theatre, "Shrek the Third" lit up the big screen as the inaugural film to debut in the new space.
The hospital says this sets the stage for a series of first-run movies patients will have an opportunity to see while in hospital.
The theatre was made possible through a $1 million donation and the backing of the entertainment industry.
The new cinema features a state-of-the-art digital and 35 mm projection system and Dolby surround sound.
SickKids Foundation president Michael O'Mahoney says the theatre is all about "minimizing the negative impact of illness and hospitalization."
