Several major roadways will be closed as the Pan Am Games torch passes through North York and midtown Toronto.

The Pan Am torch is nearing the end of its 41-day journey, after making stops in Calgary, Halifax, Richmond, B.C., Winnipeg, Ottawa and dozens of other communities.

Approximately a month after its arrival ceremony in Toronto, the torch returned to Canada's largest city on Saturday. Torch bearers have been winding their way through the streets of Toronto before bringing the torch to rest at Ontario’s Celebration Zone at the Queen's Quay Terminal on Friday.

On Wednesday, the torch relay will make its way through North York and midtown, with eight stops planned:

  • North Albion Collegiate Institute, 2580 Kipling Ave. - 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Driftwood Community Recreation Centre, 4401 Jane St. – 10:30 a.m. to 11:03 a.m.
  • Canadian Tennis Centre, 1 Shoreham Dr. – 10:30 a.m. to 11:03 a.m.
  • Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St. – 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Fairview Mall, 1800 Sheppard Ave. W. – 2:09 p.m. to 3:44 p.m.
  • Loblaws, 3501 Yonge St. – 4:30 p.m. to 4:35 p.m.
  • Loblaws, 359 St. Clair Ave. W. – 6:19 p.m. to 6:24 p.m.
  • Earlscourt Park, 1369 St. Clair Ave. W. – 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Rolling road closures will be in effect as the torch-bearers move through the route. Police warned that the following roads will be affected:

  • Northbound Kipling Avenue at Mount Olive Drive to Steeles Avenue West
  • Eastbound Steeles Avenue West from Fenmar Drive to Jane Street
  • Southbound Jane Street to Driftwood Avenue
  • Southbound Jane Street to Sheppard Avenue West
  • Southbound Yonge Street from Steeles Avenue to Sheppard Avenue
  • Eastbound Sheppard Avenue to 1800 Sheppard Avenue East (Fairview Mall)
  • Southbound Don Mills Road to York Mills Road
  • Westbound St. Clair Avenue West from Bathurst Street to Caledonia Park Road

In addition to the torch relay, part of Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed Wednesday and Thursday mornings as triathletes familiarize themselves with the course. Lake Shore will be closed between Strachan Avenue and Parkside Drive from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. both days.
