Toronto homicide officers will be canvassing a Scarborough neighbourhood on Thursday hoping to get tips from the public in their investigation of a murdered teenager.

Mahamad Adbi Warsame, 16, was found dead in the stairwell of a building on Cougar Court, near Eglinton Avenue and Markham Road, on Sunday afternoon. An autopsy revealed he died of multiple blunt-impact trauma to his body.

The victim did not live in the building, but police have released few details. Investigators have not said if the homicide is linked to another death in the same building late last month.

Family members and friends of Warsame will also be going door-to-door pleading for witnesses to come forward. Police want to trace the teen's steps in the days before his death.

Warsame is Toronto's 17th murder victim of the year.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.
