Durham Regional Police have revealed more details about two slain men found in the trunk of a car earlier this month, hoping to spur the public into helping out in the investigation into the victims' deaths.
At a press conference in Whitby on Friday, the lead investigator, Det. Mitch Martin, told reporters that Harjinder Singh Sandhu and Puneet Singh Chhina were going to visit someone in the Highway 407 and Kennedy Road area, prior to their deaths.
Both men were found dead May 5, inside the trunk of a rented 2009 Nissan Altima that was parked near Taunton and Rosebank Roads in Pickering.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the victims were killed elsewhere.
On Friday, police confirmed that Sandhu, a 28-year-old truck driver from Brampton, was facing drug charges in Windsor at the time of his death.
Sandhu was accused of attempting to smuggle 30 kilograms of cocaine into Canada over the Ambassador Bridge two years ago.
But investigators say they are not sure if those charges are related to the reasons for Sandhu's death.
As for Chhina, police say they have "no information" connecting him to the drug trade.
The 26-year-old man was from Nepean (Ottawa) and police want to talk to people who can tell them why he was with Sandhu the night he died.
Martin said the two victims were in the Highway 407 and Kennedy Road area at approximately 4:30 p.m. on May 4.
Investigators also want to know what the men were doing the night they were killed and if they have any friends or associates in the area where they were found.
