Police are investigating a homicide at a downtown Toronto Community Housing building after a man in his 40s was found dead on the second floor.

Police have not revealed many details about the investigation in the Wellesley Street East and Sherbourne Street area, but a resident of the building told CTV Toronto that officers knocked on her door early Thursday morning.

"Last night (at) 2 a.m., police knocked on my door," Elvia Castro said.

She said she met the tenant who lives in unit 216, where investigators are on scene.

Castro says the man moved in several years ago, but she did not know him very well.

According to another resident who lives next to unit 216, he has not heard or seen anything suspicious.

"You would think that they weren’t even living there because I’ve never heard the next door (neighbours) before. They're very quiet," he said.

CTV Toronto's Scott Lightfoot says at the back of the building, police vehicles were seen guarding a dumpster that was wrapped in crime scene tape.
