Toronto Police have identified 32-year-old Shane Kelter of Vancouver as this city's 53rd homicide victim of 2009.
An autopsy found that Kelter died from gunshot wounds to the torso, police said Monday in a news release.
Someone shot Kelter outside a Bay Street condo tower. Witnesses say a woman screamed for help. Police were called to the scene outside 1001 Bay St. at about 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.
"The evidence to me suggests this person was targeted," said Det. Graham Gibson, a homicide squad officer.
"All of a sudden I heard 'bang, bang, bang,' like another five to seven shots. And I'm like, 'That's got to be shooting',"Alan Durston, a guest at a nearby hotel, told CTV Toronto on Sunday.
Police say Kelter had just left a white limousine when he was shot.
Another witness said the gunman appeared to be taking his time.
"I did see the gentleman ... he was laying face down. I did see a woman; she was very upset. At one point, she was just screaming," witness Lia Messina told reporters.
Gibson said there's no reason for residents in the building adjacent for the shooting scene to be fearful.
Investigators would later find a tossed revolver with an empty near Queen's Park. However, it hasn't yet been confirmed if it was the weapon used in Kelter's slaying.
Two security cameras face the area where the shooting took place. Investigators are reviewing footage to see if any suspects can be identified.
