Toronto police have identified the 18-year-old woman who was found dead inside a Scarborough apartment.

Officers were called to the area of Sheppard Avenue East and Warden Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. on Friday on a report that a woman was found unconscious and not breathing. Simone "Shanni" Reid was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news conference on Sunday, Sgt. Susan Gomes told reporters Reid's friends went to the apartment to check up on her after she didn't show up at school on Friday. Reid shared the apartment with her 49-year-old father, Winston "Paul" Reid. Police said they are searching for Reid so they can notify of him of his daughter's death.

"We believe her father would have been the last person or one of the last people who was with her in the apartment," Gomes said.

Police said Reid's father may be driving a blue 2003 Toyota Sienna minivan with the license plate BKSK 765.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, police said a post-mortem examination has been completed but they are not releasing the cause of death at this time.
