Toronto police have arrested a man and charged him in connection with a downtown stabbing that left a 23-year-old victim in hospital with serious injuries.

A suspect turned himself into authorities at a North York police station Tuesday morning, hours after an arrest warrant was issued.

Police say the victim -- a 23-year-old man -- got into an altercation with a suspect as he was waiting near Yonge and Wood Streets for two of his friends Monday night at around 6 p.m.

During the argument, the man was stabbed multiple times with a 10-inch knife.

He was rushed to hospital with injuries to his chest, abdomen and arms. He underwent surgery but is expected to survive his wounds.

A security camera in the area caught a suspect fleeing towards Carlton Street.

Christopher Hunter, 23, is facing several charges, including attempted murder.
