Toronto Mayor John Tory has called for a meeting on Monday with representatives from the taxi industry and Uber, following a judge’s ruling that blocked the city from shutting down the ride sharing company.
On Friday, an Ontario judge sided with Uber in its legal dispute with the City of Toronto.
The city sought a permanent injunction on the company's operations, arguing Uber is a taxi company and must abide by the city's regulations.
But Superior Court Judge Sean Dunphy dismissed the application, saying there is "no evidence" the company is operating as a taxi broker, or that it breached city bylaws.
In a release Sunday night, Co-op Cabs CEO Peter Zahakos said he's been “calling on the Mayor to take action for months.”
“Right now, there are two sets of rules. One for the taxi industry, and no rules for Uber,” Zahakos said.
Zahakos says Co-op Cabs is calling on the city to “ease regulation and create rules that work for the entire industry.”
CTV News has reached out to Uber for comment but has not heard back.
