Toronto police are looking for at least one suspect after a 45-year-old man was wounded in a shooting near Gerrard and River streets Wednesday morning.
The man was shot when he opened the door to his second-floor suite inside a high-rise apartment building at 220 Oak St. shortly before 7 a.m.
A Toronto police spokesman said the victim was shot more than once in the chest.
An EMS spokesperson described the victim's injuries as serious but non-life-threatening.
Before he was taken to hospital, the victim spoke to police officers as paramedics prepared to transport him.
Police have not released a description of the suspect or suspects.
After the shooting, police officers searched the building and neighbourhood, and went door-to-door to ask residents if they witnessed or heard anything.
Forensic investigators were brought in to look for evidence, including fingerprints and casings. Officers are also analyzing surveillance video for clues.
