A man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot several times in the Swansea on Saturday afternoon, Toronto police say.

Emergency crews were called to the area of The Queensway and Swansea Mews sometime before 2:40 p.m., police said.

Callers reported hearing five or six gunshots and then observing a black four-door car fleeing the scene.

Police located an unconscious man, believed to be in his 20s, with several gunshot wounds in the back alleyway behind a housing complex.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers stayed on the scene Saturday afternoon to search for evidence, Toronto police Sgt. Mark Tracey told CP24.

“If there’s anyone who’s here who doesn’t wish to talk to police at this time, they can call 222-TIPS,” he said.

No suspect description is currently available.
