CHATHAM, Ont. - A 48-year-old man is dead after his car slammed into a Highway 401 median in Chatham, Ont., this weekend.

Provincial police say a car driven by Daryl Mahler hit the median Saturday morning, then flipped over it and onto the opposite side of the highway.

Mahler and his passenger, Theresa Mahler, 48, were travelling westbound and the car ended up on the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Daryl Mahler was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy has confirmed he died due to his injuries from the crash.

Theresa Mahler was treated in hospital for unspecified injuries and has since been released.

Police say they don't yet know why Mahler's car crashed.
