A man is dead following a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck in Brampton.
Peel Regional Police say a car rear-ended a pickup truck near Queen Street East and McVean Drive at around 10:18 a.m. Wednesday.
"It appears that tractor trailer was at a standstill and a vehicle carrying a load rear-ended the tractor trailer," Const. Bancroft Wright told CP24 from the scene. "The individual (in the car) was extracted from the vehicle by firefighters and shortly after succumbed to his injuries. At this point, investigators are looking to notify next of kin."
Images from the scene show one vehicle flipped onto its roof. Police believe the victim is a 42-year-old Brampton man.
Wright said the Peel Regional Police Major Collisions Bureau has been notified and will investigate.
"We don’t know what led to this accident but investigators will do their due diligence and make a determination. It doesn’t take long, it’s a split second,” Wright said, adding that Peel Regional Police and OPP officers were doing a traffic blitz about speeding nearby the accident scene today.
“We’re on the first day of summer and unfortunately we’re investigating a fatality on the first day of summer.”
Police closed the westbound lanes of Queen Street East between McVean Drive and The Gore Road to investigate the scene but the area has since reopened.
