Toronto police have arrested a man in relation to complaints of sexual assaults against women in downtown Toronto.

On Jan. 10 at about 1:45 p.m. police said a woman was sexually assaulted in a building's elevator in the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue area.

Police launched an investigation into the alleged assault and similar incidents which had been reported in the area.

On Jan. 15, police said several women had come forward with similar reports of allegedly being assaulted. All of the complainants were in their 20s and of Japanese descent.

At that time police issued an alert, reminding women to be aware of their surroundings, especially in places such as stairwells and elevators.

Investigators also gathered surveillance video camera footage from buildings near where the assaults had reportedly occurred. A grainy black and white image of a suspect was released to the public.

On Tuesday, officers from 53 Division arrested a suspect in the case. Eustine Jovel Hernandez, 21, was arrested in the Yonge and Eglinton area. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Hernandez made a court appearance Wednesday morning.

Police say their investigation is continuing and they believe there may be other victims in this case.
