One of Toronto's longest road closures was lifted on Saturday after nearly two years of TTC construction.
Leslie Street, between Queen Street East and Commissioners Street, was re-opened to all traffic earlier on Saturday.
The TTC says, however, there will still be lane restrictions in effect as work continues on curb lanes and the installation of an overhead power supply for streetcars. That work is slated to be completed this fall.
Since September 2013, sections of the east-end roadway have been closed due to major water main replacement work and other utility relocations.
The construction is part of the TTC's state-of-the-art Leslie Barns project. It will house the transit agency's new fleet of streetcars.
Construction on the Leslie Barns project was initially expected to be completed by 2014, but it is now scheduled to open later this year.
The project has been plagued with delays – the latest one due to the TTC discovering in May that approximately 60 metres of streetcar track had been laid down about nine centimetres too high. The error meant that the track had to be ripped out and reinstalled.
