John Tory officially kicked off his mayoral campaign at the Polish Combatants Hall Wednesday evening.
Tory, a former Ontario Progressive Conservative Party leader and radio personality, pledged to build a downtown relief line and keep property taxes low.
Tory said he would outline a financial plan for the downtown relief line in the coming weeks.
Speaking to a room of supporters, Tory took aim at other mayoral contenders.
"There are already very clear differences between Olivia Chow and me. I will build the Scarborough subway. She will not. I will start building the Yonge Street relief line right away. She might build it, eventually," Tory said.
Tory acknowledged he's not the favourite in the race and has experienced defeat before -- this is his second run for mayor. In 2003, he unsuccessfully ran against David Miller.
Tory wrapped up his speech by asking Torontonians to trust him, with a knock against Mayor Rob Ford.
"I'm not perfect but, unlike some others, I will never be content with that fact," Tory said.
