GO Transit announced it will add nearly 100 new train and bus trips to its service in the GTA and Hamilton on Wednesday.

Here's a breakdown of the service increases as of April 5:

  • Adding 36 new weekday and 31 new weekend bus trips on Highway 407 west route
  • 24 new weekend bus trips on the Stouffville route
  • Extending one of the morning and afternoon trains on the Barrie line from 10 to 12 cars, adding 320 more seats per trip

Transportation Minister Glen Murray said this service expansion is very significant and he hopes there's much greater connectivity around the city and GTA.

Barrie expansion

At the end of June, there will also be two new weekday morning trains on the Barrie line from Maple to Union Station. There are plans to add more weekend trips on the Lakeshore lines as well.

Murray praised Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehmen for working with GO Transit to expand service in the region.

"Barrie has now increased its transit service by 30 per cent and made our GO service in Barrie a transit hub for the city," Murray said.

GO Transit is set to begin construction on the Square One Bus Terminal station in Mississauga in spring 2014.
