Fans of the hit TV series “Friends” will soon get a chance step into the main characters’ favourite hangout thanks to a downtown Toronto pop-up shop recreating the show’s famous “Central Perk” coffee shop.
On the event’s Facebook page, organizers say the pop-up shop “will be meticulously detailed to recreate the experience of one of the most popular shows of all time.”
During the show’s 10-year run, Central Perk became the show’s most recognizable features and was where main characters Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross spent the majority of their time.
The replica cafe will feature the famous orange couch from the show, baristas all named Gunther, and pastries donuts and drinks inspired by each “Friends” character.
Visitors will also enjoy renditions of Phoebe’s “Smelly Cat” and a “How you doin’?” contest -- Joey’s signature line in the show.
Scripts and memorabilia will also be given away at the event.
The idea has been met with overwhelming online response.
In total, 11,000 people were invited to the pop-up shop. So far, 16,000 have said they will attend the event and 42,000 others and thinking of visiting the pop-up shop.
The pop-up shop will be held at 6 p.m. on June 24.
