At least 25 fire trucks were called to the scene of a major fire tearing through a scrap yard in North York on Friday morning.

The fire started at the yard located on Hyde Avenue, near Black Creek Drive and Weston Road, shortly after 4 a.m.

Two hours after it started, firefighters had most of the fire extinguished, but were still dousing hotspots throughout the yard. At the time, there were concerns about flames reaching a large nearby oil tank, but the fire was stopped before spreading to the area.

Firefighters have not yet provided the cause of the fire.

No injuries have been reported, but some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution at the height of the blaze.
