Police are “exploring the possibility” that a fatal stabbing in Pickering may have been a result of a random encounter.

Durham Regional Police said the stabbing occurred outside a home on Glenanna Road, in the area of Finch Avenue and Dixie Road, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. This is the first homicide of 2015 in Durham region.

Police have identified the victim as 25-year-old Dionecio “Deshane” Nelson of Brampton.

Although Nelson was leaving a party in the area, they are “exploring” the possibility that this was a random encounter and he did not know the suspects, according to police.

Investigators say they are searching for two male suspects and the vehicle they fled in, which was last seen driving northbound from the area.

The first suspect is described as male, black with a dark complexion, in his early 20s, approximately 6’2”, with an afro hairstyle.

The second suspect is described as male, black with a light complexion, in his early 20s, about 5’7”, with an afro hairstyle.

The suspect vehicle is described as a 2002 to 2008 four-doorsilver Honda Civic.

Neighbours told reporters on scene that several people were outside after fireworksthat night, and that there was a house party on the street that broke up at approximately 2 a.m.
