A cyclist has been killed and four people taken to hospital following a series of collisions near Kennedy Road and Highway 401 Saturday evening.
The incident started around 6:45 p.m. when a Dodge Durango travelling along the 401 collided with another vehicle near the Bayview Avenue ramp, OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CP24. That collision resulted in no injuries.
The Durango kept travelling eastbound on the highway until it reached the ramp at Kennedy Road. The Durango then struck a cyclist and several other vehicles, Woodford said.
The cyclist, a 37-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people and an infant involved in the collisions have been taken to hospital. Police said the infant is OK. One person suffered serious injuries.
Ten people were involved in the crash, not including the driver of the Durango. In all, six cars were involved in the collisions, police said.
The driver of the Durango, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, police said.
Due to the collision, Kennedy Road is closed in both directions between Antrim Crescent and Highway 401. TTC buses are diverting on their routes. The eastbound ramp at Kennedy is also closed.
