CORNWALL, Ont. - Cornwall won't be footing part of the bill for a multi-million dollar high speed Internet network in Eastern Ontario after all.

The Eastern Ontario Regional Network is wiring 50,000 square kilometres of the region by 2014.

A request for $258,000 toward the $170 million project was shot down by city council last night in a tie vote.

The United Counties, which is already in for $1 million, will pick up the tab instead.

Cornwall city councillor David Murphy says he can't justify spending unbudgeted money.

But Murphy believes the issue will crop up in the future.

Cornwall will still benefit from the network, but it's believed the city will have less of a say in how the network is built.
