Six people with alleged ties to a Toronto gang face first-degree murder charges in connection with two shootings last month.
Police were called to 2063 Islington Ave., just south of Highway 401, on March 17, where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Ahmed Siyad, 21, was brought to hospital shortly after 3 p.m., where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Five hours later, police returned to the same address for reports of gunfire. They found another man with gunshot wounds, who was later identified as 22-year-old Malcolm Marfo. Marfo was rushed to hospital, and was pronounced dead after arrival.
"This homicide occurred minutes after police had cleared the crime scene from the original shooting of Mr. Siyad," Staff Insp. Greg McLane told reporters at a news conference on Thursday.
Police said the shootings were connected, and believed to have "gang overtones," but said they don't believe Marfo was involved in gang activity.
McLane said police looked into any connections the shootings might have with the Dixon Road Bloods and associates of the gang.
As a result of the investigation, police executed eight search warrants in the Dixon Road area before dawn on Thursday morning, McLane said.
Investigators took six people into custody during the raids.
"It is alleged that they are all members of the Dixon Road Bloods and their associates," McLane said.
The following men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder:
- Lioban Hussein, 20
- Mohamed Omar, 26
- Saieed Hagi, 20
- Sharmarke Farah, 18
- Ali Mohamed Isse, 21
A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified under the Young Offenders Act, was also arrested and charged.
Another person who was identified during the investigation has not been taken into police custody. McLane said police will be requesting an arrest warrant for Hanad Farah, 21, who will also be charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
"I recommend very strongly that this individual turn himself in to authorities immediately," McLane said.
McLane said another man was apprehended at the time, and he became physically violent with arresting officers. The 23-year-old man faces assault and immigration-related charges. Canadian Border Services has been called in to investigate, McLane said.
