The Toronto hospital where Mayor Rob Ford is receiving treatment for cancer says that two employees "inappropriately accessed" his health records.

In a statement emailed to CTV Toronto Thursday afternoon, Mount Sinai Hospital confirmed that two unnamed staff members "who are not part of (Ford's) care team have inappropriately accessed his health records."

The hospital said it became aware of the breach of security following a "robust system of safeguards and auditing procedures."

The hospital says Ford was notified of the situation and that "appropriate action" has been taken against the employees.

The statement does not say if or how the workers were disciplined.
