Hundreds of transit riders are holding a rally Tuesday afternoon, upset that the city has not yet made the Toronto Transit Commission more accessible to those with low income.

The rally was supposed to take place at city hall ahead of a TTC meeting at 1 p.m.

The TTCriders advocacy group and other low income riders are upset the city has yet to release a plan to tackle the problem of accessibility for low income riders.

City staff have said the plan is now expected to come out in September 2016, after its release was delayed in 2015.

TTCriders spokesperson Jessica Bell said it isn’t right to make low income riders choose between food and transit.

“Many cities offer a low income pass. It’s time for Toronto to do the same,” she said. “We can’t just keep building new transit lines and ignore the reality that many Torontonians can’t even afford to ride transit today.”

Toronto has the most expensive unlimited monthly metropass in Canada, at $141.50 a month.
