A giant "Toronto" sign located in front of City Hall has been moved, temporarily, to make room for the Parapan Am Games closing ceremony.
The sign that was installed for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games was moved to clear the square for the ceremony, which will be held in Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday, starting at 8 p.m.
The ceremony will include musical performances organized by Live Nation Entertainment, and will mark the beginning of the countdown to the 2019 Parapan Am Games in Lima, Peru. It will conclude with a fireworks show from the podium roof of City Hall.
The giant 3-D sign was moved slowly Thursday morning, as crews shifted each of the approximately 140-kilogram letters across the square, one-by-one.
A spokesperson from Toronto Mayor John Tory's office said the sign would be back next to the reflecting pool on Monday or Tuesday.
The sign has been a popular attraction since the start of the Pan Am Games, with thousands of fans posing for photos in front of it or sitting in its shadow.
Last month, the city announced the sign would remain in Toronto as part of the Games' legacy. It will remain in front of Toronto City Hall until 2016, when it will embark on a city-wide tour.
