Honest Ed's, Toronto's iconic discount emporium, will be hawking more than 1,000 of its hand-painted signs and flyers on Monday.

The signage sale will be a first in a series of "nostalgic" events leading up to the store's closure on Dec. 31, 2016. Located on the corner of Bloor Street West and Bathurst Avenue, Honest Ed's was sold last year to a Vancouver-based developer.

"Since the announcement that Honest Ed's will eventually close, many of the public have asked to purchase the colourful show card signs that are produced in the store," a news release said. "Some are now being offered."

In keeping with the store's discount philosophy, the quirky red, blue and yellow signs will be sold for cheap, starting at 50 cents. They will also come with a stamp of authenticity and will be signed by either Honest Ed's long-time manager or "celebrity" sign writers Wayne Reuben and Douglas Kerr.

Proceeds from Monday's door-crasher event will go to a charitable cause.

The sale will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
