A structural engineer has been called to investigate after part of a west-end Toronto home collapsed overnight.

Police were called to the home under construction on George Brownlee Court, in the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Keele Street shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Neighbours told reporters they'd heard a loud crash, then saw debris falling from the south wall of the home. The garage floor had collapsed.

The floor and wall of the newly built home crumbled into the adjacent empty lot, creating a pile of cement flooring, bricks, gravel, and other materials.

The home, which was not yet occupied, was approximately 90 per cent complete, neighbours said.

It is not yet known what caused the collapse, but neighbours said builders were doing some excavation work near the foundation of the home during the day.

Temporary fences have been erected around the collapse site as investigators continue to examine the area. A structural engineer will visit the site to determine whether the rest of the home is structurally sound.

No one was injured in the incident.
