Former councillor Doug Ford says he is “not too happy” about a media release that seemed to suggest that he would run in the upcoming Ward 42 Scarborough Rouge-River byelection.
The terse advisory, sent out shortly after midnight, said that Ford and MPP Raymond Cho would visit city hall at 10 a.m. for the “registration for the Ward 42 byelection,” hinting at a possible return to politics for the one-time Ward 2 councillor.
Ford, however, told CP24 on Friday morning that he was only going to city hall to support the candidacy of Cho’s former executive assistant Hratch Aynedjian
“I didn’t realize that someone sent out a media release misleading people as far as I am concerned. I am not too happy about it,” he said.
Ford told CP24 that he was planning to go to city hall but shortly after making that comment the event was called off.
Hratch Aynedjian then told CP24 that nobody from his campaign or Cho’s office sent out the advisory and that he was not sure where it came from.
Ford has repeatedly hinted at a possible return to politics but on Friday he said he won’t be making a decision about his future until “next year sometime.”
Ford also said that he will not occupy a form role in Aynedjian’s campaign.
“I am busy with my book right now,” he said.
The byelection is scheduled for February 13 and nominations are being accepted until 2 p.m. on Dec. 30. The nomination window has been open since Nov. 10.
