Several people were arrested early Tuesday morning when police busted several organized crime cells operating in the Toronto area.
Police from several forces including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were seen in Etobicoke and Vaughan at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
In Etobicoke, officers made arrests at a condo building on Sherway Gardens Road in the West Mall area. Police cruisers from Toronto and Guelph were seen parked outside.
In Vaughan, at least one man was arrested by York Regional Police, RCMP and Toronto police after officers raided a home on Louana Crescent and Pinedale Gates.
Officers have provided few details, but RCMP said in a statement that at least 18 people were arrested.
The statement said that the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) dismantled organized crime cells involved in activities including drug import, trafficking of firearms, "extreme violence" and extortion.
Police said more details will be provided at a news conference on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
