Dufferin County remains under a state of emergency today, as forecasters predict more snow, blustery conditions ahead.

In a special weather statement issued early Thursday, Environment Canada warns the combination of snowy and windy conditions that have plagued the county located northwest of the GTA all week, will continue.

"Localized blowing and drifting snow and associated poor visibilities are expected to redevelop this afternoon," the agency said.

As a result, motorists are warned to beware that exposed roads are susceptible to sudden whiteout conditions.

"North to south routes in exposed areas will be most susceptible to poor winter travel conditions," it said.

In its own update Thursday morning, Dufferin County said the following area roads remain closed:

  • CR #11 (3rd Line Amaranth) north and south
  • CR #12 north of 109
  • CR#16 (Veteran's Way) to 5 Sideroad
  • CR #19 (Princess of Wales)
  • CR #124

On Wednesday, Dufferin County director of corporate services Pam Hillock told CTV the county's staff and resources were "completely tapped" after working non-stop for days to try to clear the snow off roads.

Before travelling in the area, county officials advise checking their website for updates. Drivers can also call 519-941-2816 for the latest on road closures.
