An underage driver is facing four charges, including criminal negligence causing death, after a girl was killed in a collision in Caledon early Tuesday morning.

It happened near Hurontario Street and Highpoint Side Road at the end of the Teen Ranch Canada driveway, a popular day camp, at around 4:15 a.m.

The vehicle, which was stolen, was travelling at a high rate of speed before being involved in the crash, police said.

One female was pronounced dead at the scene and one male was taken to Headwaters Healthcare Centre in Orangeville with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toyota Sienna was flipped onto its side after the collision. Officers on scene covered the car with a tarp and loaded it onto a flatbed to tow it away for further examination.

The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Highway 10, police said, when it drifted into the southbound lanes and then into a ditch.

It clipped a hydro pole, police said, and hit a fence before crashing into a brick gate.

The girl -- believed to be the passenger – was killed on impact, according to police.

“Any age is difficult; any fatality is difficult. Of course, a young person is much more tragic," Caledon OPP Media Relations Officer Stephanie Hammond told CTV Toronto at the scene on Tuesday.

Though the ages of the victims have not been released, police say both are under the age of 16.

Police say they will not identify the victims until next of kin is notified.

The accused was remanded until July 29, the release said, and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.

He is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death.

Teen Ranch Canada issued a statement saying no one from the camp was involved, but it would be closed for the day due to the road closure as police investigate.

Hurontario Street was closed between Highpoint Side Road and McCannel Avenue.
