Listowel Volunteer Fire Department members Raymond Walter, 30, and Kenneth Rea, 56, were killed Thursday when they entered a fire-engulfed store to search for any shoppers left inside.

Premier Dalton McGuinty offered his condolences to the men's loved ones, calling the deaths tragic.

"Our volunteer firefighters take time away from their families to keep us safe," he said in a statement. "We rely on their selflessness, and today's tragedy is a solemn reminder that we must never take their sacrifices for granted."
