York Regional Police are investigating after a young man was fatally shot in Vaughan Wednesday night.

The incident happened on Andrea Lane in the area of Pine Valley Drive and Langstaff Road shortly before 10 p.m.

A neighbor told CP24 that he heard the sound of a gunshot, followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away.

Neighbours rushed over and tried to perform CPR on the victim without success.

Police said that 23-year-old Silverio Feola of Woodbridge was declared dead at the scene. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Earlier Thursday police said the death was being investigated as suspicious, but they later confirmed that homicide detectives have taken over the case.

Neighbours also told CP24 that there were frequent visitors at the home where the victim lived with his parents, younger sister and partner.

Piera Jones, a nearby neighbour, told CTV Toronto that she held the victim's nose while another neighbour attempted to perform CPR.

"He had blood on his arms and kept saying 'he's shot, he's dead, he's shot, he's dead,' Jones said of the victim's father, who came running out out the house following the incident.

Choking back tears, Jones said she ran in to help.

"He (Silverio) was on the floor and David was giving him CPR and I was trying to help David. I said, 'Silverio stay with us, come on Silverio.'"

Officers had been called to the home a number of times in the past, police sources told CP24.

“We have reason to believe it’s not a random incident and there’s no concern for public safety at this time,” Const. Laura Nicolle told reporters at the scene.

A classmate who went to elementary school with Silverio and knows his family told CTV News that he remembers the young man as a shy, quiet individual and can’t imagine someone wanting to harm him.

Three black males were seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle following the shooting, police said. No further description was available.

Investigators are now looking to speak with anyone who may have seen or heard anything, as well as any neighbours who may have surveillance footage.

“We are seeking any witnesses, anyone with information to come forward,” Nicolle said.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865, or email the Homicide Unit at homicide@yrp.ca, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
