Peel police are investigating the murder of a woman found in her Mississauga house Sunday morning.

Investigators were called to a home on Carigar Court, near Cawthra and Burhamthorpe Roads, at around 7:50 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered the woman's body and another person who was injured.

The woman is believed to be in her fifties.

"The first thing I heard was the firetruck and the ambulance and then I saw 10 or 12 police cars and I thought, 'My God,'" neighbour Carla Kurok told CTV Toronto. "It's really shocking to me that something bad must have happened."

A spokesperson for Peel police said the injured person was transported to hospital. But Const. Samantha Nulle would not say if the injured man is a suspect or if he suffered life-threatening injuries.

"We are not commenting either way on the relationship of the two or the nature of the homicide until the next of kin is notified," Nulle told CTV.ca.

"Hopefully once we have our investigators on scene and they start to process the house and the evidence at hand, we'll have a better understanding of what took place," she said.

Kurok said the injured man is a "very, very nice man."

"He was very polite, always waving at us but that's all I know," she said.

The woman is Peel region's 25th murder of the year.
