GEORGETOWN, Ont. -- A woman has been charged with two traffic offences after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a car west of Toronto.

Police say Patricia McCarthy, 89, was thrown several metres when she was struck by a Ford Focus while crossing the street just after noon last Dec. 17 in the community of Georgetown.

They say McCarthy suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a Toronto hospital, where she died three days later.

Police have charged 37-year-old Jennifer Unsworth, of Georgetown, with careless driving and driving with a hand-held communications device.

Unsworth is scheduled to appear in court Mar. 25.
