An employee at an Oshawa pharmacy is facing charges after more than $40,000 worth of prescription drugs went missing over a five-month period.

The drugs started disappearing from Lovell Drugs, located on Grandview Street, in August, police said.

After an investigation by the drug enforcement unit, officers charged a 35-year-old woman who worked at the pharmacy on Dec. 16.

At the time of her arrest, police allege she had oxycontin and dilaudid in her possession with a street value of more than $13,000.

Police said they believe the total amount of prescription drugs stolen since August have a street value of $1.1 million.

Adriana DiGiorgio is facing two counts of theft over $5,000 and 10 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was held for a bail hearing.
