An elderly woman who had just turned 84-years-old on Friday was struck and killed while crossing the street on Monday morning.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was using her walker to cross the street near 16th Avenue and Swan Lake Boulevard in Markham.

She was struck by a so-called canteen truck or coffee truck that delivers drinks and snacks to worksites.

Sgt. Gary Phillips of York Regional Police told CTV News that police received the call at about 9:40 a.m.

After the collision the driver pulled over and called police.

Investigators are currently on the scene, attempting to determine exactly what happened.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident, to come forward.

There is a retirement residence close to where the collision occurred, but it is not clear whether or not the victim was a resident.

Based on her age, however, Phillips said it is likely that she was walking from a nearby location when she was struck.
