Man assaulted with machete over rent payments: Winnipeg police

A 49-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted another man with a machete over rent payments.

According to police, officers were called Tuesday morning just before 8:30 to the first 100 block of Syracuse Crescent.

When they arrived, police learned a 23-year-old man was leaving his home when he was confronted by a 49-year-old man, who also lived in the residence, over rent.

Police said the argument escalated, and the suspected armed himself with a machete and assaulted the victim, who was able to run away with minor injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody by police without incident and has been charged with assault with a weapon. He was released on an undertaking.

The charge has not been proven in court.
