A section of the westbound Gardiner Expressway has reopened after being blocked for several hours by a crash that sent six people to hospital.

The three-car collision occurred near Park Lawn Road shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Police said a black Acura was travelling west when it crashed into the back of a construction vehicle. The Acura then veered to the right and struck a minivan, which lost control, hit a guardrail and rolled over into a ditch.

Police said three people in the Acura and three in the van had to be taken to hospital, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Toronto Police Const. Clint Stibbe said the male driver of the Acura was taken into custody, and is facing an alcohol-related charge.

Stibbe said the Ministry of Labour was called to investigate the crash scene because a construction vehicle was involved.

All westbound lanes of the Gardiner were closed at Park Lawn Road, but the lanes reopened approximately four-and-a-half hours after the crash. The Jameson Avenue and Park Lawn Road on-ramps were also closed during the investigation.
