TORONTO - A 52-year-old construction company operator is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his wife in their west Toronto home.

His wife, 53-year-old Zdenka (Anne) Praljak, was found barely alive in their home along with her bleeding husband early Saturday.

Both were taken to hospital, where the woman died from wounds suffered in what police have called a domestic dispute.

Mladen Praljak woke up in hospital Sunday guarded by police and recovering from what police said appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds.

The slaying brings this year's Toronto homicide total to 69.
