A 51-year-old Vaughan woman has died after her van flipped and crashed into an icy creek on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Langstaff Road east of Islington Avenue. Rescue workers pulled her from the partially-submerged van after about 20 minutes, but she had no vital signs. Paramedics managed to revive her as the ambulance sped to Etobicoke General Hospital.

However, she succumbed to her injuries early Sunday evening.

An 18-year-old woman believed to the deceased person's daughter was also in the van. She is being treated for hypothermia and minor injuries.

Two firefighters and one police officer involved in the rescue also had to be treated for hypothermia.

York Police are investigating, however, they say there are no independent witnesses.
