Inmate assaulted at B.C. maximum security prison

An investigation is underway after an inmate at B.C.’s only maximum-security federal prison was assaulted late last week, says the Correctional of Service Canada.

The injured victim was taken to hospital outside Kent Institution after the Jan. 9 assault for treatment, according to officials, who added no staff were hurt.

“The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken,” reads a Tuesday statement from the CSC. “The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.”

The Agassiz RCMP are investigating the incident, and the CSC says it will review the matter and take actions needed to prevent future assaults.
